The average salary in Poland was PLN 8,903.56 gross per month in the national economy in 2025, according to Statistics Poland. A separate quarterly benchmark was PLN 9,233.13 for the second quarter of 2026. Neither figure is a promise of what a new employee will earn.

If you are comparing an offer from Nigeria, use the pay period, contract and working hours stated in that offer. Then calculate expected deductions and local costs. A salary converted into naira can look attractive without showing how much will remain after living expenses.

The annual and quarterly averages describe different periods. They should not be placed side by side as if they were two estimates for the same month. When reviewing a newer release, check its coverage as well as its publication date.

Average, median and minimum are different

The average adds earnings and divides by the number of people covered by the measure. High salaries can pull it upwards. The median is the middle of a distribution, while the minimum is a legal pay floor under the applicable rules. None is a standard starting salary for every occupation.

For a median comparison, use a Statistics Poland distribution release and read the population and reference month. Do not combine a median from one month with an average from another and describe them as one matched dataset.

Compare your offer with roles that have similar duties, experience requirements, contract types and locations. An advertised range may include overtime or performance pay that is absent from the guaranteed base.

What a current median adds to the average

Statistics Poland’s April 2026 distribution release, published on 7 October, gives a monthly gross median of PLN 7,695.00. In entities with at least 1,000 employed persons the median was PLN 9,098.87; in entities with nine or fewer it was PLN 4,806.00.

These are medians for that month and defined groups, not replacements for the 2025 annual mean or Q2 2026 benchmark. The size comparison describes recorded employees; it does not mean a new hire is entitled to the large-entity figure or that moving to a bigger business guarantees a raise.

Compare occupations without an unsupported salary list

A vacancy-based range and an official earnings statistic answer different questions. Before using a range for a nurse, developer, driver or warehouse worker, check its currency, gross/net basis, hours, contract and publication date.

Work areaDetails that can change the comparison
IT and engineeringSeniority, specialism, employment versus business invoicing, bonus components
Healthcare and teachingProfessional recognition, language, institution and responsibility
Transport and logisticsLicences, shifts, travel allowances, routes and overtime
Construction and manufacturingSkill grade, paid hours, site location and whether tools or housing are charged
Hospitality, retail and agricultural workSeason length, guaranteed hours, tips or piece rates and accommodation

For a regional comparison, use the same measure and month for each location. Then price the commute and actual room or flat. A Warsaw-based company may advertise work elsewhere, so the registered office is not enough to identify the cost of living near the job.

How the Poland minimum wage applies

The minimum wage in Poland and the minimum hourly rate are separate legal measures. The hourly rate applies to specified civil-law arrangements, including covered mandate and service contracts. It is not simply the monthly minimum divided by a fixed number of hours. The ministry explains its scope in the minimum hourly rate guidance.

Ask what contract you will sign. An umowa o pracę is an employment contract; an umowa zlecenia is a civil-law arrangement. Do not assume identical entitlements, deductions or guaranteed hours merely because the advertised monthly payments look similar.

From gross salary to money available to spend

A salary in Poland advertised as brutto is gross pay. Netto is the amount remaining after applicable deductions. Tax, social insurance, health contributions and individual circumstances can affect the calculation. There is no reliable single percentage to subtract from every offer.

Request a written net estimate stating the contract, age-related assumptions, insurance treatment and any voluntary deductions. Then ask whether housing, transport or other charges will be taken from that amount. Employer accommodation is not automatically free accommodation.

Use an offer-comparison worksheet

QuestionWhat to record
What is guaranteed?Base gross pay, minimum paid hours and contract duration
What is conditional?Overtime, attendance bonuses, piecework and performance pay
What will be deducted?Payroll deductions plus separately agreed housing or transport charges
Where will you live?Address or area, room arrangements, deposit and commuting costs
When is payment made?Pay date, first-payment timing and payslip access

Consider two hypothetical offers. One has a PLN 6,000 gross base with no included housing; another has a PLN 5,600 gross base and accommodation charged at PLN 400. These details alone cannot identify the better offer. You still need comparable net estimates, hours and actual housing costs for the first option.

Plan the move separately from the monthly budget

Prepare for document costs, travel, a housing deposit and the period before your first salary. Keep these one-off expenses separate from food, rent, transport, communications and other regular commitments. If you plan family transfers, include both the amount and the transfer cost.

Use PLN for Polish expenses. Convert into NGN only with a dated exchange rate and realistic charges; a fixed conversion in an article will become outdated. Compare cities through the offer and the housing you can actually obtain, rather than assuming that a higher regional salary always means a larger surplus.

Nominal growth does not promise greater purchasing power

A pay rise in PLN and a rise in the amount you can buy are not identical. Compare the same earnings series over time, then consider price changes separately. Do not turn a forecast made in 2024 into an observed 2026 salary or imply that every occupation will share the national growth rate.

For planning, test a base case using guaranteed pay and a second case with fewer overtime hours or higher housing costs. If essential expenses can only be covered by an unconfirmed attendance bonus, identify that dependency before committing to travel.

Before you accept

Ask for the contract and pay breakdown before paying for relocation. Check that the legal employer, job, work location and agreed conditions match the documents used for your application. Our guide to finding and checking work in Poland from Nigeria covers the employer, permit and visa stages.

Does average pay mean that an offer below it is unlawful?

No. The average is statistical. Lawful pay depends on the applicable minimum and other relevant conditions, while competitiveness depends on the particular role.

Can overtime make an offer better?

It can increase earnings, but compare the guaranteed base first. Ask whether extra hours are available, lawful, voluntary where relevant and paid at the stated rate.

After comparing gross pay, assess taxes in Poland separately: gross statistics do not establish personal take-home income.
